Assistive Technology Service Information Page

The  primary goal of NettieT, aTp Consultants  
is to provide quality service in the area of
Assistive Technology to address the needs of
persons with disabilities.  This service also
incorporates the use of a transdisciplinary
team that includes the client and the client's
support team members. Support team
members may include but are not limited to:
family and/or care providers, speech
pathologists/therapists, agency support
personnel, medical personnel, friends,
educators, occupational and/or physical
therapists, assistive technology practitioner  
and others who are designated to be a part of
the client's circle of support. The process
includes consideration to the client's
functional skill levels and needs, in current
environments and/or future required domains
of use.  The goal is to incorporate AT
equipment and/or services that provides  
persons of unique needs functional assistive
technology options that allow them to be
"the
best of who they are"
in their daily life.  

An overview of provided services are:

• Client observation in their natural
environment and environments of potential
use, to establish necessary disciplines for an
accurate, functional assessment.

• Collaboration with the Assistive Technology
Team consisting of Agency Representative
and designated disciplines as it addresses
assessments and evaluations of referrals.

• Establish collaborative linkages with various
agencies as they might address the Assistive
Technology (AT) and/or Augmentative and
Alternative Communication (AAC) needs.

• Review and assist in the coordination  of
funding sources with the AT Team.

• Provide reports on AT and/or AAC
assessments, team meetings, and
consultations to review report.

• Serve as liaison with Parents, care provides
and/or guardians, agencies, and
vendors/manufacturers.

• Review and recommend AT and/or AAC
software, equipment, and devices (high tech,
low tech and soft tech) as they address
client's needs and functional skills.

• Collaborate with Parent, Agencies and
Vendors to assist in the provision of
appropriate AT and/or AAC.

• Installation of software, hardware, switches
and related equipment as they apply to AT
and AAC.

• Provide necessary trainings for software,
hardware, switches, etc., and provide
supporting handouts and/or written directions
in a comprehensive format.

• Personalize and/or design communication
boards  for manual, static display and
dynamic display communication systems.

• Provide technical support.

• Provide necessary training for client, support
persons and/or family of designated AT and/or
AAC.

• Provide workshops and presentations on
Assistive Technology and/or Augmentative &
Alternative Communication.

• Provide follow-through support on Assistive
Technology and/or Augmentative & Alternative
Communication.
