of Annette T. Fischer, Assistive Technology
Practitioner, RESNA certified.  The company is
located in Elk Grove, California and provides
AT Services throughout the Sacramento area  
and the surrounding communities.

An Assistive Technology Practitioner is
primarily involved in the evaluation and
assessment of end user’s assistive technology
needs, as well as training and follow-up in the
use of that technology.  The Practitioner
provides the level of expertise necessary to
guide the consumer, including the third party
purchases of services, in determining how
assistive technology can help meet the needs
of the client.                

Annette Fischer is a
RESNA* credentialed
Assistive Technology Practitioner.   She
received her Assistive Technology Applications
Certificate  from California State University,
Northridge, Center on Disabilities and College
of Extended Learning.  She has accumulated
hours of in-service and  training, through
private and public agencies.  Continued
education is ongoing in the ever changing
field of assistive technology.  The goal  of this
Assistive Technology Practitioner is to improve
the potential of people with disabilities and
allow them to be the best of who they are,
through the use of technology.

What is an Assistive Technology
Practitioner?
An Assistive Technology Practitioner has a
knowledge of  AT and AAC systems, devices,
related software, and training needs.  An ATP
maintains an expertise in various aspects of
AT and AAC, including  assessments, funding
sources, disciplines associated with the
individual client needs, software, equipment
and devices available on the universal market
that address the characteristics of a person's
assistive technology needs.  The ATP has the
ability to design and/or adapt available
technology (high tech/low tech) that address a
particular person's needs.  The ATP has the
ability to establish a rapport, maintain effective
working relationships and secure cooperation
of clients, families,  instructional personnel,
third party service providers, outside agency
representatives and outside vendors.  They
must possess the ability to network effectively,
with other agencies, professionals, et al, in the
field of Assistive Technology and
Augmentative and Alternative Communication
RESNA has provided a voluntary credentialing
process in order to ensure consumer
safeguards and increase consumer
satisfaction with the service delivery process.

What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology is "any item, piece of
equipment, or product system whether
acquired commercially off the shelf, modified
or customized, that is used to increase,
maintain, or improve functional capabilities of
individuals.
Low Tech:  Simple, less expensive
interventions designed to fit a person's needs
that are effective and easily integrated into a
person's life-style.
High Tech:  Complex, electrical and electronic  
devices such as computers, augmentative
communication devices and environmental
control systems.
Soft Tech:  The Human components and
strategies  that are utilized in Assistive
Technology.

What is Augmentative, Alternative
Communication?
Augmentative and Alternative Communication
is any method and/or strategies used to
replace, compensate  and/or enhance the act
of which one person might use for
communication.  
Communication may be intentional or
unintentional, may involve conventional or
unconventional signals, may take linguistic or
nonlinguistic forms, and may occur through
spoken or other modes.  ASHA defines AAC
as: "An area of clinical practice that attempts
to compensate for the impairment and
disability patterns of individuals with severe
expressive communication disorders."

Effective Date: November 8, 2007

Services and Limitations:  Assistive
Technology Services to be provided as stated
in the Individualized Education Program.

Certification notice verifies authorization for
contracting under the provisions of Section 56366 of
seq. of the Education Code when Certification is
"approved" or "conditional" status.
